The theme of The 75th Tohoku University Festival
, yet it knows the blueness of the sky.
Although there were restrictions on the number of visitors, eating and drinking due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 74th Tohoku University Festival was held face-to-face for the first time in several years.
We took thorough measures against coronavirus, and thanks to various people’s help, we were able to end the festival successfully. We are aware that this 75th Festival has very important roles. First is to inherits the tradition, and second is to fully revive our festival. We would really like to regain the original energy of our festival, and make it a place where all people who involved can shine. Therefore, the theme of the 75th Tohoku University Festival was decided to be “, yet it knows the blueness of the sky.” This was inspired by a Japanese proverb, “The frog in the well knows nothing of the great ocean.” The words “yet it knows the blueness of the sky.” was added later to this proverb and “,” implies this in our theme. There is something in common with the frog in the well and us, who were trapped in a small world because of the pandemic. The frog in a narrow well does not know the wide blue sea, but he can know the blueness of the sky in the darkness of the well.
The theme also includes the process of frog knowing his own body color, which is blue (in Japan, blue can be both blue and green). Struggles under the influence of pandemic made us grown up and leads us to know the personalities, dreams, goals and possibilities of ourselves. We wanted to include these things in our theme too. Now is the time to jump out from the restriction and be free.
