006EN代表挨拶

Greeting from the Chairperson

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued understanding and cooperation in our university’s student support services, including educational and extracurricular activities.

As hosts, we are delighted to announce that the ‘Tohoku University Festival’, one of our university’s primary student events, will take place from October 27th(Fri)to the 29th (Sun). This three-day event will spotlight our students’ accomplishments in extracurricular activities, exhibitions, and performances. Furthermore, an array of food and beverage stalls will be set up across the campus for your enjoyment.

Our university festival has a rich history and tradition that has evolved over time, and this year we are celebrating its 75th edition. However, the widespread outbreak of COVID-19 over the past two years has profoundly affected our university’s classes and extracurricular activities. The 72nd to 74th editions of the university festival were conducted under stringent infection prevention measures and limitations, including online events, restricted on-campus participation, visitor number constraints, and the inability to establish food stalls.

For the upcoming 75th edition of our festival, we have decided to hold it in its entirety, with careful consideration of the current societal conditions. We will be implementing essential infection prevention measures to ensure the safety of all participants. Since the university confirmed to hold a full-scale event back in June, our students, who are eager to showcase their achievements at the university festival, have been maintaining high levels of motivation, dedicating themselves to I rigorous practice, and making through preparations. For those planning to attend, we hope you eagerly anticipate the students’ performances and enjoy the festival to the fullest.

The theme for this year’s Tohoku University Festival is”, yet it knows the blueness of the sky”(「、 されどソラの蒼さを知る。」). Our guiding principle is to” Revive and Renew the Tohoku University Festival. “This theme was inspired by the proverb, “The frog in the well knows nothing of the great ocean, yet it knows the blueness of the sky(「井の中の蛙大海を知らず、されど空の青さを知る。」). Through the events and activities of this year’s university festival, we aim to make the vibrant “sky” visible to our students, who have faced various limitations due to COVID-19 pandemic. We believe that this experience will not only contribute to their personal growth and future aspirations but also foster further development and growth of the university festival itself.

This year’s university festival has gathered valuable support and understanding in the form of sponsorship money from numerous alumni, alumnae, and corporate partners. All of your support is greatly appreciated and we promise to remain dedicated to ensuring the success of this year’s Tohoku University Festival.

As we conclude, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation once more to all those engaged in this event for understanding and collaborative spirit. We are truly looking forward to welcoming a multitude of attendees.

Welcome to the 75th Tohoku University Festival!

I am a chief organizer of the festival’s executive committee, Yoshikawa Yusuke. I am a sophomore of the faculty of engineering.

The theme of this year’s festival, “, but knows the blueness of the sky” (a latter part of Japanese famous saying, “a frog in a well doesn’t know the big ocean”), is based on what we, the students, have felt through the past several years. We are more than happy that the day has come when we can hold a festival in a form that has leveled up since the last year.

I’d like to use this opportunity to express our appreciation to all the people who have cooperated with us and all the companies that have sponsored us.

On this year’s festival, there will be food booths for the first time in four years. University Festival, as a place to present activities, academics, and research inside the campus buildings and on the main stage, has continued to have been held continuously. This year, we are looking forward for the festival to become more exhilarating with the vitality outside of the buildings.

The removal of the restrictions on the number of visitors is a big step as well. We will regulate the number of people inside the campus, but we hope to create a festival that anyone can feel free to stop by and enjoy.

Various festivals around Japan are beginning to flourish again, but this time, we would like you to take notice of this festival initiated by this “Tohoku University”. We have also prepared a lot of events unique to our university. Now, please enjoy the 75th Tohoku University Festival that has not just returned to before covid but has been recreated and refined!
